CCN Slideshow 2002-2006

This 5-minute slideshow covers the Comic Creators Network from 2002 through 2006, and includes photos from sketchbook parties, coffeeshop gatherings, comicbook art shows, CCN convention tables, and 24-hour-comic events. As I made the slideshow, I just kept remembering all the good times...and it makes me really look forward to all the events we have planned for 2007. I'll see you there!

This Kansas City Sketchbook Party is all about getting together with other artists and writers...and creating in a fun social environment. Bring your sketchbook and doodle or bring a project you are working on and put a couple of hours of solid work into it. And since its at Fric and Frac...enjoy some food and beer while you're at it! Its all about our focus for 2007: Draw more, draw better, and support each other in reaching our personal goals...

Weekly Eye on the KC Comix Scene for 12.28.2006

Shawn Geabhart flies while Mark Stinson rises from the ashes. Monte May plays ball while Mike Sullivan shows he has character. Parrish Baker waxes poetically, while Dave Bryant gives us a hot chick with snakes for hair!

In honor of Christmas, Mr. Mellon pisses some idiot off and beats on the dead. Travis Fox gives us more presents while B gifts us all with courage. Kevin Gritzke, Jason Preu, and Jason Arnett talk Christmas. Steven Sanders buys a new geiger counter (I'm serious!) Jeff Blascyk shares a very special drawing with us...

Rob Schamberger posts some cool looking pages. I actually found Duane and I on the pages from some reference photos we posed for awhile ago! Pretty cool. Kelly Sue Deconnick is a pin-up girl (for knitting). Rubigimlet talks motion lamps. Bill Hook shares his latest Frankenstein art while Chris Garrett gives us Santa kicking ass!

Seth Wolfshorndl spends some time on a bedpan while Jake Angell reveals Big Foot in 3D. David Daneman shows us the darker side of porn while Bruno Pieroni jokes about getting turned on. Aaron Williams talks zombies. Shaun Gray shows off a baby and some monsters!

Josh Cotter and Travis Fox continue to grace the Kansas City Star. Jeremiah Allan archives some of his past artwork and Ed Scott shares another edition of ComicSmack! I'm sure I've left someone out...believe me when I say it is a mistake of the mind...not a mistake of the heart.

Parrish Baker shares some comic pages. Shawn Geabhart shares another sketch for a secret project. Mark Stinson gives you the world for free and Travis Fox shares a series of presents as well. Mr. Mellon is pure magic and B talks about Apricot. Lee Leslie gives us holiday cheer and a skeletal diva. Kelly Sue Deconnick shares her Flickr favorites. Ed Bickford pencils a really cool piece.

Rubigimlet avoids the cookies, Jason Arnett promises some surprises, while David Daneman verticalizes a strip for a picky editor. Aaron Williams talks TV. Alonzo Washington's MySpace page crashed my computer! Have you guys seen the project Jeremy Mohler's involved in...Baeg Tobar? Mickmo...we hope you feel better! Brian McKinley...we want more Verdant Spiral!

Bruno Pieroni's K City rolls along. Chadd Keim goes Viking at Starbucks while Chris Garrett illustrates the need to get regular check-ups. Daniel Spottswood and Travis Fox both hit the strip joint. Greg Smallwood shares some KC Star work. Jason Preu attempts to induce flatulence. Micheal Buckley appears to be pheasant fellow. Last, but not least, Monte May posts a comic page.

COMIXCLUB.COM gets a face-lift

The Comic Creators Network communicates mostly with its message board at comixboard.com. But the CCN has a main homepage at comixclub.com. That main homepage got a face-lift today...and we sort of went "old-school" with it.

When Duane Cunningham designed the first CCN message board, he used various browns and oranges...and gave it a very unique look. Well the new page takes us back to that unique color scheme...Check it out!

Weekly Eye on the KC Comix Scene for 12.14.2006

Shawn Geabhart joins the army while Arie Monroe does the robot. Mr. Mellon receives some kind words from Clay Moore.

Travis Fox has fun with Lindsay Lohan, B prefers Stevie Nicks, while Lee Leslie hangs with pirates. Jeff Blascyk shows off his Pencil Neck and Rob Schamberger finally washes.

Kevin Gritzke submits. Matt Fraction rules with an Iron Fist while Kelly Sue DeConnick wonders about fruit. Kyle Strahm sketches ol' chicken head.

Rubigimlet speaks wisdom. Jason Arnett draws 69 while Bill checks in for the holidays. Dan Jacobson continues a blog that makes me feel a little dumb every time I read it.

Scott Ziolko shares a 24-Hour-Comic and Mickmo has trouble getting his phone turned on. Steven Sanders shares a warm-up sketch while Hopeless Dent humiliates a friend. Mark Stinson talks about zombies while smoking a cigar.

Scott Hassler posts in an animated fashion, Seth Wolfshorndl sings to a different tune, and David Daneman gives to the poor. Aaron Williams offers the shirt off his back.

And last...but far from least...Four great artists, Hector Casanova, Daniel Spottswood, Travis Fox, and Josh Cotter take over the world!

Nine Times Nine - Chris Garrett

Chris Garrett's Nine Times Nine is a fun place to check in on once in awhile....

Several times a month he gives us a virtual-peek into his sketchbook. In addition, you need to check on his epic-project...THE FLOOD.

The flood is Chris' 500 page fantasy epic. He's been working on this book at what appears to be a reasonably steady pace...and he had 115 pages availble for you to look at on-line. On his blog, Chris reports that he's beginning the work of "finishing" his pencilled artwork. Here's an example of the finished product...

I'm looking forward to seeing Book 1 of the Flood done, having it in my hands, reading it, and knowing that I watched this thing develop from beginning to end!

Jake Angell

The Kansas City Comic Scene is a river that runs both deep and wide. Its hard to keep track of everyone...and just tonight I "rediscovered" Jake Angell. It had been awhile since I had visited his website and I'm not sure I had ever been to his blog...Lobsterman's Art Blog. But having visited both, I would recommend you visit both!

Jake has a fresh illustration style...and he's been playing around with 3D rendering software for a little bit now. Don't forget to leave a comment for Jake on his blog or send him and e-mail with some comments about his artwork!

Kansas City Comix Activity...

We used to do the "Daily Eye" on the Kansas City Comix Scene here on this blog...but we were not the first...nor the last to do it. Nor were we the best at it! Parrish Baker stepped in when we faltered...and has been doing an amazing job of it. He's been really busy, so we thought we'd return the favor, and summarize the activity since Parrish's last summary on May 14th. Hopefully he'll be back at it soon!

Shawn Geabhart has been posting "lunch hour" artwork that's so good you want to smack the guy. Mike Sullivan showed off Scotty Skyrocket and talked about the Da Vinci Code. Greg Gildersleeve also talks about the Da Vinci Code, and posts some excellent guidelines for Collaborating with other comic book creators on projects. Old timer Monte May is diving head-first back into comics. Mark Stinson (O.K., that's me) shares family photos, as well as some ghost photos, and posts some finished comic book pages.

Heavy Water has Gearhead artwork. Travis Fox shares politics, artwork, and LOST tidbits. Duane Cunningham shares another piece of his life. Jeff Blascyk shares his top 10 martial arts fight scenes. Rob Schamberger says goodbye to Alex Toth.

Kevin posts some very polished and funny cartoons and a funny "gas" video. Matt Fraction also says goodbye to Alex Toth and talks about his newest comic. Kelly Sue is just fun! Kyle Strahm begins work on Girl Friday: Book 2. Clay Moore talks music. Jason Arnett gives us two more pages of Risers...

Bill mourns the loss of his puppy Samson. Dan Jacobson talks about women in comics. Scott Hassler hones his computer skills and inks Kirby. Shaun Gray sketches. Seth Wolfshorndl talks about SPACE and shares some web-comics. Aaron Williams talks about comics movies and a stock photo service.
