Original cover to Fantastic Four #48 by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott. This issue marked the debut of the Silver Surfer the star of the new FF movie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I guess the filmmakers wanted to avoid any puns so they've done away with "the coming of" anybody. This whole amazing story was published in 1966! It's taken 40 years for them to bring it to the big screen. I know it will be nothing like the comic book, but I'm hoping to enjoy it none-the-less.
The three issue story-arc (FF #48-50) debuts the Silver Surfer, herald of the space-god, Galactus. Galactus, we discover, seeks to drain the life-force of planets, leaving them ravaged, drained of energy. Over the years, rather than keeping with the initial concept of "think of Galactus as a gold miner -- prospecting in space! but, instead of ore, he digs for energy," Galactus' intentions were simplified by writers who either didn't understand the concept, or thought it was just funny to make him "something that eats planets."
Such a shame.

Artwork from MGC#35 by John Buscema and Joe Sinnott. This issue was the reprint of Fantastic Four #48, printed in 1972. I love this Buscema cover depicting how monumental the arrival of the Surfer was.
Been working all week with a friend to get a garage/moving sale and auction ready. MAN! what a lot of work!!
Listed it at Craig's List Here with all the directions and stuff. Have a lot of 2X clothing going for little of nothing. Comics, of course!
Saturday, June 9th.
The garage sale starts at 9am.
The auction will begin at 5pm.
I'll be in Des Moines this Saturday for Comic Book I-Con 2007. I really enjoy this convention as the convention-goers all seem to really be into comics. Not just the famous ones, but comic books, in general. A good convention for an independent guy like me. I'll be staying Friday night at a hotel, as I can't do the drive-by-myself-early-in-the-morning thing. Really looking forward to it!
[EDIT]I'm going to be giving away TwoMorrow Publishing's Comics 101: How to & History Lessons from the Pros 2007 to those up-and-coming talents. Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 5, 2007. I will be out at
Pop Culture Comix
9337 W 87th Street
Overland Park, Kansas
11 am - 5 pm
I'm going to be giving away TwoMorrow Publishing's Comics 101: How to & History Lessons from the Pros 2007e up-and-coming talents in KC. Show me your work or draw something that I can post on my blog/website and you'll get a free comic that tells you how to make comics! Young or old, if you're interested in being a comic creator or just want to learn more. Come on out! I know I wish I had this book when I was younger! Or even 6 years ago!
I hope everyone interested goes out to their favorite comic book retailer and has a chance to look at not only the FREE stuff, but maybe something that you've heard about or something that you liked as a kid. I'm sure there'll be loads of Spider-man stuff (there's a free Spider-man comic just for this special day) just in time for the movie. I see there's even a free Legion of Super-heroes comic based on the animated t.v. series.
My buddy Bill Hook will be out there as well as Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore, authors and co-authors of many Star Trek novels and short stories as well as many other projects.
I hope the weather holds for us. Forecast is for scattered showers. Hope they scatter away from us! Hope to see YOU out there!
Here is a page (7) from what I'm working on. This is a pretty large project so I don't know how much of this I can really post and it make any kind of sense. There's just so much story here and it's going to take me a long while to get it together. Click on the image to get to a larger version.
Here are some of the head sketches I did from my goofy photos. This is how I spent the evening and I'm pretty happy with them for the most part. I had trouble with the girls (I really need some girl-models, but I'll make-do for now).
Click on the images to see the whole picture. This blog crops them off. Or check my LiveJournal account for comparison.

I've been spending some time lately fleshing out other characters in my story so they don't seem to just appear out of thin air. Although, as with a lot of comics characters, some of them can.
I've never done model sheets before and this was a good exercise, but I have a ways to go. Click here for my first attempts. Hopefully, they will get better as I go.

A favorite fumetti of mine from Monster Madness #3, circa 1973.

This is the cover for my new mini-comic featuring the story that starts with Page 1 here.
I'll be debuting it at the Mo-Kan Comics Conspiracy Convention this weekend in Kansas City (October 28-29, 2006)! I'm pretty excited about it.

Greg Gildersleeve and I will also have a discussion at the convention on Sunday about creating comics.
Here is page 1 fully inked. This is taking a little more time with the arrangements... anyout out there play twelve-string guitar?
