This 5-minute slideshow covers the Comic Creators Network from 2002 through 2006, and includes photos from sketchbook parties, coffeeshop gatherings, comicbook art shows, CCN convention tables, and 24-hour-comic events. As I made the slideshow, I just kept remembering all the good times...and it makes me really look forward to all the events we have planned for 2007. I'll see you there!
Its a youtube.com video...so click here to view the streaming video right now....

Comic Creators Network of Kansas City
Date: Sunday, January 21, 2007
Time: 3:00 PM (leave when your drawing hand cramps up)
Place: FRIC & FRAC 1700 W. 39th Street
Moderator: Mark Stinson - voidpulp@yahoo.com
I can't believe this is almost here already! The response to this new event has been great...
This Kansas City Sketchbook Party is all about getting together with other artists and writers...and creating in a fun social environment. Bring your sketchbook and doodle or bring a project you are working on and put a couple of hours of solid work into it. And since its at Fric and Frac...enjoy some food and beer while you're at it! Its all about our focus for 2007: Draw more, draw better, and support each other in reaching our personal goals...

The Comic Creators Network communicates mostly with its message board at comixboard.com. But the CCN has a main homepage at comixclub.com. That main homepage got a face-lift today...and we sort of went "old-school" with it.
When Duane Cunningham designed the first CCN message board, he used various browns and oranges...and gave it a very unique look. Well the new page takes us back to that unique color scheme...Check it out!

Comixboard.com is YOUR local comic book message board. Are you a comic book artist? A comic book writer? Maybe you just love comic books? Then click on over to the Comic Creators Network Message Board. First-time users need to register and receive admin approval. That never takes more than one day. Prior users can jump right on and start posting!

You should give Lyrics Illustrated by Seth Wolfshorndl of Three Trees Studios a chance. Its an on-line contest where you simply name the BAND/MUSICIAN and SONG TITLE on which the weekly artwork is based. The sender of the first correct answer wins the ORIGINAL ART for that lyric and a free copy of Random Ink #1. Test your knowledge:

Bruno Pieroni is a modest man of many talents. Check out his comic...Welcome to K City, which appears in the KC Star Preview section. For Bruno's other talents check out his professional website.
Bruno has been to a Storyteller's Workshop and we hope to see more of him at comixboard.com and at CCN events...

An e-mail from Elizabeth Jacobson is presented below...congrats, Dan!
-Mark Stinson
It's official! Dan Jacobson was a recent selection for the April 5th edition of the Carnival of Feminists. Check out the website at:
http://ragnell.blogspot.com/2006/04/carnival-of-feminists-xii.html
or go directly to the post at:
http://burningbronte.blogspot.com/2006/03/musings-on-jog-dworkin-and-vampirella.html
All congratualtions, adulations, and idol-worship can be directed to Dan. His e-mail is dlouisjacobson@yahoo.com. Small alters and/or cash will be accepted as well.
Congrats to Dan! It takes real talent to use an Andrea Dworkin essay to dissect Vampirella and make it interesting. Or is it that it takes Vampirella to make Dworin interesting?
Elizabeth
P.S. Please forward this post to whomever else needs this information. Because you know more people than I do.

Lonal is a friend of Arie Monroe's here in Kansas City. Here's the three things I know about him: He doesn't have a way to put his art on-line, he's very polite & patient, and he wants to develop as an artist.
He mailed me these pages a few weeks ago. Here's his story, scanned, up-loaded, and ready for your enjoyment. (Remember to click "Read More" to see the rest of the story!) Email Lonal at lonalduncan@yahoo.com, or post your comments in this string...

You want content? Then check out Chris Garrett's "The Flood." Its a blog with a focused purpose. To show and share Chris Garrett's progress on his huge fantasy graphic novel project. The quotes provided in the rest of this post are from Chris himself, right from his blog...
-Mark Stinson
The Flood is a series of fantasy dungeon adventure comics that I am writing, and this site is a weblog of its creation. About twice a week I'm posting pages as I complete them, although "complete" is not the most accurate term at this stage, as much of what is posted here has yet to undergo final refinement. I would like to publish the story in large graphic novels of 150 or so pages each. The complete story will take no less than 600 pages to tell. I hope to have the first volume printed in 2006.
The Flood contains or will contain lots of blood, horrific gore, swear words, scary monsters, drug use, sexual activities and naked body parts of both sexes. You should also be warned that I'm telling the story with a rather unhurried attention to detail, so reading it one page at a time on the internet may not be the most enjoyable way to experience the story.
Instead of daily or weekly updates of everything being blogged...let's highlight some Kansas City comic book writer's and artist's blogs...
For a long time I could not figure out why Travis Fox did not have a website or a blog. He's a very talented artist who manages to also be very funny. Well, I was happy to see that back in June he got his blog going...and its definitely worth a visit and some browsing. Despite its name: Foxymoron Sucks!
In a recent post, Travis talks about getting some work from David Frese and the Kansas City Star...the cover of the Previews section. (Travis on the left, David on the right)
This is the title panel from the piece he did...click it to see the whole thing. Then stick around and read what Travis has to say...

Rob Schamberger just released this beauty. This 48-page comic anthology costs just $1, and its now available at Elite, Comic Cavern, and B-Bop South here in Kansas City, Missouri. It'll be available at B-Bop Midtown on Friday (10/7). Rob's hoping to make it out to Pulp Fiction on Friday night, as well.
Rob only printed up around 100 of these...so get your copy while you can!
-Mark Stinson
On First Friday, October 7, 2005, from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM, at the Momo Gallery, at 19th and Locust...you can experience an artshow and comic book release party thrown by elBryan Stalder and Kyle Richards.
There will reportedly be free music, beer, and even balloons! How exciting is it that elBryan Stalder and Kyle Richards are releasing two new comic books, and throwing a big party/show to mark their release? Good job, guys!

KC artist, Darryl Woods volunteered his time to teach some school kids about comics. Click Here for the rest of the photos and all the details. Darryl really is one of the most generous guys you'll ever meet...
-Mark Stinson
"Tranquility" - That's the Illustration Friday topic. Draw something for it by next Friday (7-29)...and let everyone know about it! It will go up here or at COMIXPERIENCE...
-Mark Stinson
From Friendly Frank on the Comix Scene Message Board:
August 12 our esteemed B-Bop Midtown co-manager Joe will be moving to Minnesota. We're thinking of creating a new, full-time position split between the Midtown (3940 Main) and South (95th & Nall) stores. If this doesn't work out we'll just hire a part-timer for each store.
![]()
Either entry level position starts at $6.50/hour and goes to $7.50/hour in 3000 hours. Qtly profit sharing bonuses in 6 months. Knowledge of comics required. Applicant must be 21, a self-starter, detail and customer service oriented, likeable, have readable handwriting and not be afraid to learn new things all the time. Once trained you must be able to work by yourself and sell a wide variety of items.
Call Frank @ 913.383.1777 for more details.
The CCN (or "KCCCN" has two tables at the upcoming KC Comiccon. We need some table volunteers. Who would like to work the table...selling Show & Tell #3...handing out materials about the KC Comix Scene and Comixperience...and talking to people about our group?
Volunteers get con badges and other perks that come with working the tables. We need at least one person each for the following "shifts"...and I need this info for Greg, ASAP. I didn't realize I'd be volunteering for this till just recently, and Greg needs this info to type up badges, etc.
| Saturday 10:00 - 1:00 | Sunday 10:00 - noon | |||
| Saturday 1:00 - 3:00 | Sunday noon - 2:00 | |||
| Saturday 3:00 - 5:00 | Sunday 2:00 - 4:00 |
Just post in this message board string calling dibs on one or more of these shifts. If badges run short, its a combination of first-come-first-served with preference going to those that take more than one shift. If you have never worked a table before...its fun.
Click "READ MORE" to see the guest row's layout...
